The post holder will act as a practitioner providing expert care in relation to stopping smoking in pregnancy whilst being responsible for supporting the Trust’s delivery of the Tobacco Control Strategy. He/she will continually develop and review Stop Smoking Services within the maternity setting ensuring high standards are attained, in line with best available evidence. He/she will provide professional leadership within midwifery services, providing specialist knowledge whilst working collaboratively with staff and liaising with clinical leads, supporting, educating, motivating and monitoring progress within the area of smoking cessation.
The post holder will develop and manage clinics providing Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), support and advice to patients/clients in a safe, effective, efficient and holistic manner, ensuring positive outcomes for the mother, child and families during pregnancy and beyond. He/she will be expected to work across both the hospital and community settings.
- Provide a women-centred, holistic approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate.
- Manage and prioritise workload and act upon identified learning needs to improve service provision and patient care.
- Assist in the management of change in an effective manner in relation to introduction of new stop smoking approaches and systems.
- Act as an advocate for women and families, empowering them to promote their own health and wellbeing.
- Hold a current full driving licence valid in the UK with access to a car on appointment.
- Experience in delivering training/health information awareness raising or providing support to a lifestyle change, utilising a behaviour change approach.
- Registered Midwife on the NMC Register. Have a Midwifery Degree and 2 years’ post-registration experience, within a midwifery/Health Improvement role OR
- Registered Midwife on the NMC register. Have obtained a postgraduate or equivalent qualification. Have 2 years’ post-registration experience within a midwifery/Health Improvement setting OR
- Registered Midwife on the NMC register. Have 5 years’ post-registration experience, which must include a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Registered Midwife on the NMC register, within a midwifery/Health Improvement role.
