Application Instructions

• You must clearly demonstrate on your application form under each question how and to what extent you meet the required criteria, as failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted.
• You must demonstrate how you meet the criteria by the closing date for applications unless the criteria state otherwise.
• The stage in the process when the criteria will be measured is outlined in the table below.
• Shortlisting will be carried out on the basis of the essential criteria set out in Section 1 below using the information provided by you on your application form.
• The Selection Panel reserves the right to shortlist only those applicants that it believes most strongly meet the criteria for the role.
• In the event of an excessive number of applications the Selection Panel also reserves the right to apply any desirable criteria as outlined in Section 3 at shortlisting, in which case these will be applied in the order listed. It is important therefore that you also clearly demonstrate on your application form how you meet any desirable criteria.

Qualifications

• An applicable qualification in work related to Technology and Design, Engineering, Construction or resistant materials (Shortlisting by Application Form)

Experience

• A minimum of 12 months experience in an industrial engineering or construction workplace (Shortlisting by Application Form)

Knowledge

• Health and safety regulations as relevant to the role
• General administrative processes and records

Skills / Abilities

• Proven effective planning and organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines (Interview)
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve outcomes
• Evidence of sound interpersonal and communication skills
• Organised and diligent
• An ability to prioritise workload

Experience

• A minimum of three years experience of working in an industrial engineering or construction workplace
• Or experience of working in a school as a Technology and Design Technician

Job Title: Technician 2
Reports To: School Principal through designated line manager
Responsible For: Maximum of 5 staff
Job Purpose: To provide technical support and assistance to teaching staff in the implementation of the schools/departments educational programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise appropriate staff (shared supervision) including managing and allocating duties.
• Identify and provide on‑the‑job training to appropriate staff.
• Provision and maintenance of facilities and practical resources.
• Assist teaching staff in developing and manufacturing teaching aids and models.
• Prepare resources for all classes, including setting up, testing, demonstrating and dismantling suitable resources as per agreed schemes of work.
• Collect, clean and store all equipment and materials securely in designated storage areas; ensure items are maintained in a state ready for use.
• Dispose of used materials in a safe and approved manner.
• Ensure that mandatory and/or statutory checks of materials and equipment are carried out by qualified personnel.
