THE EMPLOYER IS: JOHN PAUL II YOUTH CLUB. To work directly with young people to support their personal and social development by delivering programmes of activities. This role is designed for staff appointed to undertake duties under the supervision and guidance of a Youth Worker-in-Charge or nominated Youth Support Worker. Responsible to:

Assisting with the unit/project programme and the implementation of JPIIYC organisational policies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of programmes, related to the ‘Model for Effective Practice’.
  • Ensure that young people play an active role in the youth group and work towards a model of youth participation.
  • Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people. Assist young people to express and realise their goals.
  • Challenge oppressive behaviour in young people. Providing information and support.
  • Support young people in evaluating youth work activities and the impact of youth work on their development.
  • Implement the JPIIYC Management Committee’s Child Protection Policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
  • Assist with administrative duties within the unit/project.
  • Carry out such duties, as may be assigned by the Worker in Charge within the level of the post.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Trainee youth leaders need a blend of soft skills and practical abilities such as communication, empathy, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • Ability to rally young people around shared goals, ensuring safety, dignity, and growth. Inspiring youth to stay engaged and committed to activities and personal development. Taking proactive steps to organise, guide, and support youth programmes.
  • Ability to manage disagreements constructively to maintain harmony.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers, staff, and youth to achieve common objectives.
