Lead Software Engineer - Global Fin Tech

Location: Belfast (Hybrid Working)

A global Fin Tech organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join its growing engineering function in Belfast. This is a senior, high-impact role offering the opportunity to shape architecture, lead technical teams, and deliver mission-critical systems operating at scale.

The hiring manager is actively reviewing profiles and keen to engage with candidates who bring strong technical leadership, deep engineering experience, and a proven ability to design and deliver complex platforms.

As Lead Software Engineer, you will take ownership of technical direction while remaining hands-on where it matters. You'll work closely with product, delivery and engineering teams to design scalable, secure solutions within a regulated, high-volume environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the design and evolution of large-scale, high-performance software systems
• Providing technical leadership across architecture, development, and delivery
• Guiding engineers through complex problem-solving and technical change
• Collaborating cross-functionally with Product, QA, Dev Ops and Agile teams
• Mentoring and developing engineers through coaching, reviews and knowledge sharing
• Driving platform resilience, performance optimisation and long-term scalability

We're particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:

• A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
• 10+ years' professional experience in software engineering
• A strong track record working on mission-critical, high-volume applications
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, influence architecture decisions, and mentor engineers
  
  Significant experience in system design, architecture at scale, and performance optimisation

• Strong Java and Object-Oriented Programming expertise
• Experience with modern development practices and cloud-native architectures
• Exposure to technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and modern front-end frameworks is beneficial
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments
