Design Engineer

As part of Bouygues Construction's Public Works division,
VSL International participates in the construction of major technical structures and guarantees their structural safety and durability: transport infrastructure (bridges, tunnels), industrial and energy production structures, and commercial buildings.

To reinforce our team in Switzerland (Bern), we are recruiting a Design Engineer to support our Business Development and Operations teams. As part of the VSL internal technical team, you will be responsible for Design works on various projects and contribute to deploying innovative solutions for our customers. You will work on projects of all sizes, mainly in Switzerland but also internationally, supporting the construction of new structures as well as the repair and strengthening of both civil works (bridges, footbridges, infrastructures) and buildings.

• Design of reinforced concrete / post-tensioned concrete structures (slabs, transfer slabs, bridge girders) acc. to SIA/Euro codes
• Design of strengthening solutions for buildings / bridges
• Develop design models (2D/3D) based on Cubus / Sofistik software
• Coordination with project managers and engineering offices to ensure design accuracy and compliance with standards as well as interfaces
• Preparation of concept drawings, coordination and review of execution drawings
• Perform site inspections and support site teams with design clarifications and technical input during construction phases

• BSc or MSc Degree in civil/ Structural Engineering or equivalent
• At least 1-2 years of relevant design experience
• A strong technical background and interest in specialized design solutions
• Ability to work on different and challenging projects at the same time
• Excellent analytical skills and strong communications skills
• Fluent in either German or French, with good written and spoken English
