The Space Research and Planetary Sciences division at the University of Bern researches the formation and evolution of our solar system. Highly specialised instruments are developed and built for spacecraft, which carry out measurements in situ, e.g., in the vicinity of Jupiter. Our team is internationally recognised for its achievements and cooperates in numerous space missions, including the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA.
ResponsibilitiesYour focus will be on subsystem integration and verification and providing support to the electronics hardware and software teams.
- System and sub-system testing, verification, validation
- Maintaining the required documentation (assembly logs, test reports, etc.)
- Contributing to the instrument level ground support equipment
- Supporting development of scripting languages software (basic Linux knowledge, Python, etc.)
- Supporting electronics hardware development including prototyping
- Supporting integration, EMC and environment tests as well as building test interfaces (soldering, cable manufacturing)
- Managing flight-electronics components and maintaining libraries, schematics, and layouts (Altium)
- Handling space instruments according to ESD standards and in an ISO 5 cleanroom environment
- As an electronics technician or technician HF in electronics, experience in testing of electronics system and sub-system
- Familiarity with the space environment and knowledge of the ECSS standards would be an advantage
- Good spoken and written knowledge of English
- German is an advantage

- The salary range is determined in accordance with the personnel regulations of the Canton of Bern
- The position is available immediately or upon negotiation, for an initial period of one year with option of extension
