In this pivotal role you will provide high‑level executive support to the Dean of School and play a key part in advancing the University’s ambitious, future‑focused Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver confidential, professional support to the Dean of School and coordinate day‑to‑day operations.
  • Manage a complex diary and flexibly meet key business needs, activities and deadlines.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and support the planning and delivery of high‑profile events.
  • Process and interpret large volumes of information quickly, including producing accurate minutes, records and follow‑up actions.
  • Work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience as an Executive Assistant or senior administrator with a proven track record of providing high‑level support and managing competing priorities.
  • Degree level education or an equivalent professional qualification, or relevant experience that demonstrates initiative, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills in a dynamic, multifaceted environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload.

Logistics

This is a hybrid role with three days per week on campus (subject to business need). The position is based at our City South campus, with occasional cross‑campus travel required. The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to an environment that supports lawful free speech and academic freedom. We will continuously review and improve our policies, practices and procedures to ensure that we are promoting these in all aspects of our operations.
