Black Top Surfacing Supervisor
Salary: Up to £40K dependent on experience
Location: Birmingham

I am currently working with a number of clients that focus heavily on large surfacing projects throughout the UK. There is a high demand for skilled surfacing professionals with previous industry experience across the UK. The majority of the clients I am currently working on behalf of have positions in London and the Midlands (Leicester and Northampton) area.
Responsibilities- As a supervisor you will be responsible for a team of road surfacing gangs and in charge of controlling & managing contracts. You will be expected to coordinate, supervise and optimise all labour and materials to ensure correct day-to-day management of the company’s surfacing operations.
- Works will include heavy civils, embankment reinforcement (strengthened/un-strengthened), carriageway widening, full carriageway construction, VRS, comms, and street lighting in addition to capital works and reactive maintenance.
- Responsible for day to day management of contract. Coordinate with principal contractor local council/utility authorities on operation/maintenance and renewal work. Manage staff and training.
- You should have excellent organizational skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to plan projects. You will also be tasked with maximizing contractual performance to achieve maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness in conjunction with the local team.
- You must have previous experience working on surfacing projects at a supervisory level and be computer literate.
- This is a permanent role but there are also contract positions available dependent on experience.
- Additional duties include quality management, health and safety compliance, site coordination, progress monitoring, and liaison with authorities and contractors to ensure successful delivery of works.
- Establish quality management implementation to ensure all works are carried out to specification and design for incorporation into the permanent works.
- Ensure works carried out are to client design and specification.
- Supervise and monitor all aspects of work and report problems to the project manager. Compile daily/weekly diary records, plant and labour records and site photos.
- Assist with the management and administration of the construction works in accordance with the Contract.
- Carry out inspection, testing and sampling to verify compliance with the Contract.
- Oversee the quality assurance management system.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial and progress reports.
- Assist with the recording and valuation of the work carried out.
- Assist with planning and programming of the works in close liaison with the Contractors.
- Provide assistance with monitoring progress and developing an action plan if progress is behind schedule.
- Assist with the Construction Phase Plan;
Site Waste Management Plan and Environment Plan; maintain Health and Safety File. - Monitor Contractors’ Method Statements and risk assessments to ensure adherence.
- Ensure site inductions are carried out and recorded for site safety.
- Promote innovation during the construction phase.
- Collect and collate data for KPI measurement.
- Assist with the production of the quality plan and adherence to procedures; identify/create new procedures as necessary.
- Liaise with Area Managers and Manager for coordination and integration of works.
- Liaise with Local Authorities, Statutory Authorities, Emergency Services and other third parties to ensure successful completion of works.
- Issue site records for changes/queries/instructions/non-conformities, etc.
- Review work diaries to identify issues and resolve.
- Report accidents; conduct daily/weekly site and compound inspections.
- Ensure the principal contractor submits a weekly updated programme.
- Compile Health and Safety File electronically/hard copy.
- Organise progress and meetings; write minutes if required.
- Audit contractors’ inspection and test plans and review health and safety plans for method statements/risk assessments.
- File all relevant documentation, including health and safety file documentation.
- Organise regular meetings with clerks and engineers to resolve issues.
- Ensure all works are carried out to client design and specification.
- Previous UK Main Contractor experience
- Must reside in the UK
- 3+ years industry experience
