Design Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Design Manager to join a top business specialising in Student Accommodation projects to take responsibility for managing the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery. You will play a key role in coordinating consultants, ensuring design compliance, and supporting successful, buildable project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage and coordinate the design process across all project stages

* Lead design development from tender through construction and handover

* Coordinate architects, engineers, and specialist consultants

* Ensure designs are compliant with statutory requirements, building regulations, and client briefs

* Manage design programmes, deliverables, and information flow

* Identify and manage design risks, opportunities, and value engineering options

* Chair and lead design meetings and workshops

* Review drawings and specifications for buildability, cost, and programme impact

* Work closely with commercial, planning, and site teams to ensure design intent is delivered

* Manage design changes and ensure accurate, timely information is issued to site

Requirements

* Proven experience as a Design Manager in Student Accommodation or Build to Rent schemes.

* Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing

* Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams

* Ability to interpret and challenge technical drawings and specifications

* Excellent organisational, communication, and coordination skills

* Strong knowledge of relevant building regulations and industry standards

* Proficient in design management systems and document control platforms

Desirable (but not essential)

* Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or similar
