Join our Structures team in Birmingham to lead on large projects or multiple smaller projects, balance independent work with resource management, and support junior engineers while promoting best practice.
The Birmingham Office, adjacent Snow Hill Station and a short walk from New Street, fosters an enthusiastic and friendly team working on a broad range of Midlands-based and UK schemes across sectors including retail, residential and commercial redevelopment, manufacturing and industry, and education.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Supervise and review the work of design staff, providing mentorship and training.
- Lead and check structural design work across a range of projects.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other disciplines.
- Contribute to setting and maintaining technical standards and best practice.
- Support project management, including resource planning, budgets, and fee control.
- Encourage team collaboration, professional development, and compliance with IMS and health & safety standards.
- Degree qualified Chartered Engineer (or equivalent experience, typically 8+ years).
- Strong technical competence in structural engineering.
- Commercial awareness with ability to manage budgets and fees.
- Proven ability to run projects and lead teams.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and mentoring skills.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to create practical solutions.
- Reliable, self-motivated, with a responsible attitude to work.
- Project and financial management, including cost awareness and resource planning.
- Business development through strong performance and client relationships.
- Technical leadership in structural design, reporting, and site inspections.
- Team leadership, mentoring, and effective communication.
- Sound understanding of CDM regulations and health & safety requirements.
- Experience working on building structures.
