Contractor Engineer; MEP

Contractor Responsible Engineer (CRE-C, MEP) – Birmingham, West Mids – Outside IR35, 3‑6 months – Circa £550/day Ltd or Umbrella (role not yet assessed for CIS).

A specialist principal contractor is looking for a Mechanical & Electrical CRE-C to help close out some direct to Network Rail projects on a station in Birmingham.

As CRE, you will be responsible for the management, coordination, and assurance of all engineering and technical activities within your discipline for a specific project or work package. You will ensure that all works are delivered in accordance with the design intent, relevant standards, and the requirements of the client – including full compliance with Network Rail () or equivalent assurance frameworks.

• Act as the approved CRE for a defined discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Civils, Comms) on major infrastructure projects.
• Ensure design and construction activities comply with engineering standards, specifications, and statutory regulations.
• Collaborate closely with the Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM), design teams, and site teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery.
• Manage engineering interfaces, design integration, and technical assurance processes.
• Review and approve work package plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and design deliverables.
• Lead constructability reviews, risk assessments, and design reviews.
• Provide engineering support to the site delivery team and resolve technical issues promptly.
• Ensure all documentation is properly controlled and recorded in line with project requirements.
• Liaise with clients, third‑party stakeholders, and regulatory bodies as needed.
