LBYD was founded in 1973 with the incorporation of
E. Glenn Bishop & 1978 with the merger of the structural engineering firm Lane & Hodnett Structural Engineers the firm became Lane / Bishop / Hodnett 1987 the firm became Lane Bishop York Delahay Inc. which is known today as LBYD 2001 LBYD began offering civil engineering services. With the addition of the civil department and the continued commitment of our structural department LBYD has experienced growth at a phenomenal rate.
We continue to pursue growth opportunities evidenced by opening more branch offices throughout the Southeast region.
The Design Engineer (DE) is an entry-level engineering position. The Design Engineer works in a collaborative team environment under the supervision of senior engineers. The Design Engineer performs routine engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles to complete project requirements. They are assigned specific tasks on a project and are expected to use their education intelligence and critical thinking to perform job responsibilities.
The DE will learn the different aspects of a project and learn how to complete tasks required to assemble a set of plans.
- Perform structural design calculations interpreting building codes
- Document all project communications
- Instruct BIM Modelers how to turn designs into completed structural drawings
- Assist in structural engineering evaluations reports analyses and designs for existing and new facilities and other related opportunities
- Participate in site visits
- Review contractor submittals
- Review shop drawing submittals and request for information
- Research and identify governing criteria codes guides and best practices
- Work under the supervision of project managers senior structural designers and other senior-level team members
- May be asked to travel to out-of-town / state assignments
- Work alongside functional departments to fulfill corporate needs

Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering w / Structural Focus or related undergraduate degree.
- 0-2 years experience
Preferred Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of Revit
- Proficient use of Engineering Design Software
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and methods
- Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
- Listening and following directions
- Self-motivated and process-driven
- Critical thinking
- Communicates well
- Can Do Attitude
- Ability to adapt to changes
Required to have passed or is preparing to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

Physical DemandsExerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time
