Role DescriptionUrban Highways Regional Team Leader role based in Birmingham to support regional growth. The Urban Highways team leads design development from concept to delivery. The candidate will be client facing, provide leadership to the local team, and help grow the business.
Responsibilities- Lead and provide technical support on assigned projects to ensure delivery of Public Realm, Transport, Traffic and Infrastructure schemes.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships; proactively seek new opportunities and contribute to business growth.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure the integrity of overall designs and cross-sell capabilities where appropriate.
- Mentor and provide leadership to junior staff; act as technical lead and key point of contact for projects as required.
- Deliver high-quality outputs, ensure compliance with client specifications, budgets and deadlines; promote quality standards and health & safety awareness.
The role sits within the wider national Highways and Transport business unit, delivering a diverse portfolio from feasibility through to detailed design. Projects span local authorities, contractors and international clients, including major schemes listed in the original description. You will gain experience across a wide and varied project portfolio, including overseas opportunities and innovative, technically challenging work.
Qualifications & Experience- Experience in design and implementation of urban highway, transport and public realm schemes (e.g., cycle schemes, bus priority projects, high street improvements, signalised junctions, road safety schemes).
- Existing industry contacts and a proven ability to win business.
- Experience developing schemes from concept to construction design, including public consultation drawings and comprehensive design packages; working knowledge of CDM regulations.
- Proven delivery of technically excellent projects; project management experience on large public realm and traffic engineering schemes with NEC contract administration.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to build and maintain client relationships at senior levels; strong commercial focus.
- Willingness to travel across the UK; hands-on project and people management; mentoring of junior staff.
- Ability to assemble an ecosystem of aligned disciplines around the Urban Highways team and cross-sell skills.
- Project Wise / BIM Standards; 3D design awareness and construction of 3D ground models.
- Drainage design awareness, especially sustainable urban solutions; junction modelling and GIS familiarity.
- Rough Order of Magnitude costs and detailed Bills of Quantities; site supervision.
