As a Broadcast Operations Engineer at the BBC you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and continuous operation of broadcast systems within the Birmingham regional centre and west midlands region. The successful candidate will ensure seamless delivery of broadcast services by managing troubleshooting and optimizing broadcast equipment infrastructure and workflows supporting live and recorded content transmission and collaborating with technical teams to deliver the highest quality output to audiences.

• Monitor maintain and support broadcast technology systems across TV and Radio as well as IP-based infrastructure in the transmission chain and across the region.
• Plan and perform scheduled and reactive maintenance on broadcast infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
• Understand and adhere to BBC safety policy with particular attention to electrical safety and perform maintenance repairs and electrical safety testing on broadcast equipment.
• Collaborate with systems specialists and regional teams to implement system upgrades and new technology deployments while adhering to change control framework.
• Respond to and resolve operational incidents swiftly to minimize broadcast disruptions.
• Provide technical support during outside broadcasts and special events for TV and Radio.
• Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations incidents resolutions and problems using appropriate service management tools.
• To support colleagues in the Mailbox and across other regional sites when required.

Bachelors degree or BTEC(HND) in Electronics Telecommunications Broadcast Engineering or a related technical field preferred.

Proven experience in broadcast engineering.

Strong analytical and fault-finding skills.

Thorough understanding of TV systems and production workflows. Experience with video edit and playout systems.

Strong knowledge of broadcast systems transmission protocols and networking for example knowledge of transmitters encoders playout systems and IP streaming technologies.

Solid understanding of networking principles including TCP / IP multicast VLANs and routing.

Strong theoretical and practical understanding of Radio principles for example knowledge of Transmission chains Audio Mixers and Outside Broadcasts

Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under pressure.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical issues to a wide range of audiences. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Full UK Driving Licence.

• Proven experience in a live TV broadcast environment.
• Strong understanding of broadcast signal flow video and audio formats (SDI IP AES) and transmission systems.
• Ability to diagnose and repair broadcast faults quickly and effectively under pressure.
• Proficiency in using broadcast monitoring tools and diagnostic equipment (waveform monitors vector scopes audio meters).
• Hands-on experience with broadcast equipment (vision / audio mixers routers intercoms camera systems servers automation systems etc.).
