Job Description Materials Surveyor Location :
Ideally Birmingham / West to Bristol (covering UK & Ireland travel)

Salary : £40,000 – £45,000 (DOE) + Annual Bonus + Car Allowance / Company Car + Benefits

Travel : UK & Ireland Travel – Remote

The Company

Faststream Recruitment is partnering with a global leader in marine certification and inspection to recruit a Materials Surveyor. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a world-class organisation that plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of marine equipment and materials.

The Role

You will work closely with manufacturers who produce equipment and materials for marine vessels and offshore installations. The position involves auditing and surveying a wide range of components, anything that goes on board ships including :

  • Steel structures and hull components
  • Machinery, pumps, and valves
  • Propellers and pipework
  • Lifesaving appliances
  • Fabrics, coatings, and fire / smoke / toxicity-rated materials
  • Equipment for offshore windfarms
  • Electrical and mechanical systems
Key responsibilities
  • Surveying and auditing both products and manufacturing processes.
  • Witnessing installations and reviewing equipment functionality.
  • Ensuring full compliance with Class and statutory requirements.
  • Producing detailed technical reports.
  • Managing your own schedule and responding to short-notice assignments.
The Candidate

You will ideally have :

  • An HNC or Degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Broad technical knowledge, or a willingness to learn across multiple disciplines.
  • An understanding of manufacturing processes and quality standards.
  • Strong self-management, organisational, and IT skills.
  • A flexible and resilient mindset with the ability to adapt to varied workloads.

Marine industry experience is beneficial but not essential - training will be provided. Candidates from mechanical or electrical engineering backgrounds with transferable skills are encouraged to apply.

The Rewards
  • Salary : £40,000 – £45,000 (DOE).
