Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

A well–established and ambitious building services consultancy is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their Birmingham office. This role is perfect for an experienced engineer looking to take technical ownership, lead projects, and mentor junior staff while delivering innovative and sustainable building solutions. You'll work across commercial, healthcare, education, and residential sectors, ensuring high–quality electrical designs and fully coordinated MEP solutions.

• Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systems
• Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, technical drawings, and reports
• Manage project deliverables across all stages, from feasibility to handover
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure fully coordinated MEP designs
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and design teams as a key technical point of contact
• Ensure compliance with UK regulations, standards (BS 7671, CIBSE), and sustainability objectives
• Support business development and contribute to internal processes and standards improvement

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
• Chartered status (CEng) or actively working towards it (e.g., CIBSE, IET)
• 6+ years' experience in electrical building services consultancy
• Strong expertise in electrical system design and coordination
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux)
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and mentor junior engineers
