Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for a care assistant to join our new High Dependency unit as a Healthcare Assistant working 157.5 hours every 4 weeks. You will need to be flexible to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
The individual will assist in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of our service users under the guidance of qualified nurses. You will assist in supporting service users to engage in social/therapeutic activities, promotion of effective relationships which enable and address spirituality, diversity and equality in accordance to our organisation s mission, values, vision and legislation.
Main duties of the job- Provide advice and instruction to patients to explain any procedures being undertaken
- Follow individual care and therapeutic programmes for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse
- Support care plans to help patients reach recovery goals, maintain ADLs, attend appointments and develop coping strategies
- Support registered nurses in physical health monitoring, including patients vital signs, drug/alcohol screening and promoting wellbeing (when appropriately trained)
- Be supportive and communicative with patients and colleagues
- Attend and participate in staff meetings
- Ensure at all times patients are treated with care and compassion
- Ensure that privacy and dignity of patients is respected and maintained at all times
- Report any change or deviation from planned care package to registered nurses
- Be informed and aware of the patient s clinical condition and individual circumstances to ensure the care and comfort of service users
- Provide patients with personal care
- Support in maintaining and promoting health and safety within the work environment
- Support and promote patient management of their Section 17 leave of the Mental Health Act
- Assist in the maintenance of ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times

Person Specification Qualifications- Completed NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
- Evidence of appropriate post graduate learning
- Care Certificate (Completed, or working towards)
- NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care
- Experience of working within mental health services or similar care experience
- To understand and adhere to the confidential nature of the work
- Understanding of the roles of individual members of the clinical multi-disciplinary team
- Experience with in a mental health rehabilitative environment
- Working Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and changes with Mental Health Act 2007
- Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Safeguarding procedures
- Basic Keyboard Skills
- Effective Communication, both verbal and non-verbal
- Able to assist others in delivery of care
- Able to work with/without direct supervision
- Able to prioritise and organise own work, whilst also supporting others
- Evidence of supporting families and carers
