Job DescriptionTalent Consulting is looking for experienced Technical Architects to join a high-profile public sector initiative. This is a unique opportunity to shape an ambitious new architecture program from the ground up, delivering robust digital solutions that serve the public interest. Responsibilities- Establish and lead the implementation of organizational standards and templates for technical and product documentation.
- Create a consistent architectural language and documentation framework that aligns with GDS (Government Digital Service) or industry-standard practices (such as the C4 model).
- Lead a focused review of the existing technical estate to rationalise, consolidate, and improve the quality of technical documentation.
- Drive the migration of legacy documentation into a modern, product-centered structure that improves accessibility and maintainability for engineering teams.
- Facilitate workshops and deep-dives with technical leads to capture tribal knowledge and formalise it into the new architectural structure.
- Act as the final reviewer for technical documentation to ensure it is accurate, up-to-date, and provides a clear roadmap for future development.
- Deep experience working within the UK Public Sector, with a comprehensive understanding of the GDS Service Standard and the Technology Code of Practice.
- Experience leading projects through GDS Service Assessments, ensuring that architectural documentation supports the “Alpha, Beta, Live” lifecycle.
- Proven ability to ensure technical documentation and product designs meet public sector accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.2).
- A track record of defining and implementing architectural documentation templates and standards (e.g., C4 model or Archimate) across a large-scale public estate.
- Experience in the rationalisation of technical debt, specifically in auditing legacy documentation and migrating it into a modern, product-centered structure.
- Demonstrable experience working across an active product estate to identify architectural gaps, security vulnerabilities, or missing integration patterns.
- Experience aligning technical documentation with Product Management workflows, ensuring that architecture supports user-centric service delivery.
- The ability to communicate architectural risks and documentation value to both technical teams and non-technical Senior Civil Servants.
