Role Overview:
Social Worker – Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC)

Location:

Predominantly West Midlands & Shropshire (with travel as needed)

Work Pattern: 1 day in office (duty / team meeting days), 4 days from home

We are seeking an experienced and resilient practitioner to support unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people, aged 16 and above, primarily placed in the West Midlands. The young people are predominantly residing in the Shropshire area, though the role may require travel to other areas depending on placement locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hold and manage cases of unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people (UASC), many of whom have experienced trauma, displacement, and disrupted care.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with young people, supporting their emotional well-being, safeguarding, and integration.
  • Conduct return home interviews, risk assessments, and develop tailored support plans.
  • Demonstrate strong assessment and analytical skills, maintaining high standards of recording and adhering to statutory timescales.
  • Utilise knowledge of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and apply safeguarding measures where necessary.
  • Employ effective conflict resolution techniques and support young people in managing dysregulation and emotional trauma.
  • Prioritise supervision, come prepared to reflect and seek guidance where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals, participate in team meetings, and contribute to shared learning.
  • Take part in regular duty days and attend required meetings in the office.
Person Specification
  • Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • Proven experience working with vulnerable adolescents or asylum-seeking young people.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures, trauma-informed practice, and CSE.
  • Excellent communication, recording, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex situations calmly and effectively.
  • Comfortable working both independently from home and within a team environment.
