Embark on an adventure with this thrilling opportunity as a Senior Social Worker/Practitioner for Birmingham Children’s Trust within the Homeless Intervention Team. Over a three-month period, you’ll engage with life-changing work to assess and support young people aged 16-17 who are homeless or s is an excellent chance to leverage your expertise while earning £33.30 hourly in a full-time locum role that places a vital emphasis on the well-being and futures of vulnerable youth.

Whatyou will do
- Conduct timely, child-centred assessments under Section 17 and Section 20 of the Children Act 1989 for young individuals presenting as homeless.
- Determine whether these young people are ‘children in need’ requiring accommodation under Section 20.
- Inform young people of their legal rights and entitlements if accepted as looked after children.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns related to exploitation, abuse, self-harm, or neglect.
- Develop comprehensive child in need plans, care plans, and pathway plans together with the young person.
- Collaborate with housing teams, health services, education providers, and voluntary organisations to deliver joint assessments and fulfil the local authority’s responsibilities.
- Ensure detailed and accurate documentation of assessments, decisions, and legal compliance under statutory guidance.
- Advocate for young people’s rights to support, care, education, and independent advocacy services.
Essential qualifications include a degree in Social Work, registration with Social Work England, and a sound understanding of the Southwark Judgement alongside experience with adolescents at risk of homelessness. Familiarity with child protection procedures is crucial. Possessing the ability to collaborate with multiple agencies and manage complex cases will be key to your success.
