Senior Backend Engineer – Up to £90k + Equity – Fully Remote UK

The Opportunity :

Join a high-growth consumer tech scaleup building a next-generation platform powering millions of active users. This is a chance to work in a fast-moving engineering environment where you’ll own meaningful parts of the backend, shape infrastructure and directly influence product direction as the business scales.

You’ll work within a compact, experienced engineering group that owns work end-to-end and ships ideas into production at pace.

They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong infrastructure instincts to help evolve a large-scale, data-driven platform. The role is roughly split across :

This will be primarily a backend development role focused on data flows and APIs, with some involvement in infrastructure and Dev Ops, including CI / CD and reliability.

You’ll work closely with product, design and engineering leadership, playing a key role in :

• Designing and scaling backend services that support multi-product features
• Strengthening cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines
• Building robust, well-tested systems that can handle high user engagement
• Improving developer experience, performance and reliability across the platform
• Contributing to technical decisions across architecture, tooling and best practice

The environment suits engineers who enjoy autonomy, take ownership end-to-end and thrive in fast feedback loops.

The team prioritises strong cloud engineering fundamentals over specific language experience, but the following would be ideal :

• Cloud : GCP
• Languages :
  Python
• Infra :
  IaC experience, Kubernetes, CI / CD, modern observability

Exposure to high-usage, data-rich consumer systems would be a strong advantage.

An interest in sport or fantasy products is beneficial but not essential.

• Strong backend engineering experience with production-scale systems
• Solid systems design fundamentals and API development experience
• Experience owning services end-to-end (from build → release → operate)
• Comfort working across both backend and infrastructure layers
• Experience in high-growth environments or platforms with significant usage
• Problem-solving mindset, curiosity and high attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
