Junior Industrial Engineer - Plant Layout

Our client, a well-established agricultural processing facility, is looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Junior Industrial Engineer to join their team in Bloemfontein, Free State . This internship provides an exceptional opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in plant layout design, material flow analysis, and process optimization within a dynamic production environment. You will work closely with senior engineers, learning to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, such as improving workspace efficiency, reducing material handling time, and ensuring optimal equipment placement.

This role is crucial for supporting ongoing initiatives to modernize the facility and enhance operational productivity. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, possesses strong analytical skills, and is keen to contribute to tangible improvements in a real-world manufacturing setting.

• Assist senior engineers in the development and modification of plant layouts and workstation designs.
• Conduct time studies and motion studies to analyze work processes and identify areas for efficiency gains.
• Support the data collection and analysis required for process improvement projects.
• Help in evaluating material handling systems and recommending improvements for optimal flow.
• Learn and apply CAD software for drafting and revising plant layouts and equipment specifications.
• Participate in site walks to assess current operational conditions and identify potential issues or opportunities.
• Assist in the documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to layout and material flow.
• Contribute to team meetings and brainstorming sessions for process enhancement initiatives.
• Gain exposure to lean manufacturing principles and their application in a plant setting.

• Recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong academic foundation in industrial engineering principles, including work measurement, facility layout, and process analysis.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with basic statistical analysis and data interpretation.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Eagerness to learn and develop new skills within a manufacturing context.
• Must be based in or able to commute to Bloemfontein, Free State .
