Process Safety Engineer

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety initiatives in Bloemfontein. This role is crucial for identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards within their oil and gas facilities. You will be responsible for implementing and managing robust process safety management (PSM) systems, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and a passion for fostering a proactive safety culture, minimizing risks and ensuring the well-being of personnel and the environment.

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) elements and procedures.
• Oversee the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program for critical process equipment.
• Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry best practices (e.g., OSHA PSM).
• Provide training and guidance on process safety principles to operations and engineering staff.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably in the oil and gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and relief system design is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
