Job Description & How to Apply Below
Lead Mechanical Engineer
We are working with an innovative engineering business seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in leading and owning the design and development of complex, multi-part engineered equipment.
This role will suit an engineer who has worked through the full design lifecycle, from concept and requirements capture through to detailed design, validation, manufacture, and in-service support. It is also an opportunity to have sole ownership of the products development and build a team over time.
The Role
You will act as the technical lead on mechanical design activities, working closely with cross-functional teams including electronics, manufacturing, supply chain, and project management.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the end-to-end mechanical design process for complex assemblies and systems
* Translating product requirements into robust mechanical solutions
* Ownership of concept generation, detailed design, tolerancing, and design for manufacture (DFM/DFA)
* Managing and reviewing CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation
* Supporting prototype build, test, verification, and design iteration
* Providing technical leadership, mentoring, and design authority within the team
* Liaising with internal stakeholders and external suppliers throughout the development cycle
* Supporting continuous improvement of design standards, tools, and processes
Required Experience & Skills
* Strong experience in mechanical or product design of multi-part equipment or systems
* Proven involvement across the full product development lifecycle
* Advanced 3D CAD capability (e.g. Solid Works, Creo, Catia, NX or similar)
* Experience designing assemblies with multiple interfaces, tolerances, and moving parts
* Understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, moulding, assembly)
* Ability to balance technical detail with delivery deadlines
* Experience working in regulated, safety-critical, or performance-driven environments is advantageous
Desirable
* Experience leading projects or acting as a technical authority
* Exposure to electromechanical or mechatronic products
* Knowledge of verification & validation, testing, and design reviews
* Background in industrial equipment, special purpose machinery, or engineered products
Why Apply?
* Opportunity to work on technically interesting, engineered products, not commodity design
* High level of autonomy and influence over design decisions
* Collaborative engineering environment with real scope for progression
* Long-term, stable role within a growing engineering team
If you’re an engineer who enjoys owning designs from concept to reality and working on complex mechanical systems, we’d like to hear from you
