At Severfield, we’re creating better ways to build for a world of changing demands. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior NDT Inspector based at our Dalton, Thirsk site. Our Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for various sectors, including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail, and health and education. Joining our team offers a chance to develop and grow while contributing to large‑scale projects across the UK & Europe.
Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate all NDT activities during the shift, ensuring timely and accurate inspections.
- Interpret and apply relevant standards and specifications including BS EN ISO, AWS, and ASME.
- Perform and oversee NDT methods:
Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), and Visual Testing (VT). - Review and validate inspection reports for accuracy, clarity, and traceability.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior inspectors and technicians.
- Ensure all inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve inspection‑related issues.
- Support investigations, audits, and root‑cause analysis related to quality concerns.
- Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Certified NDT professional with deep expertise in structural steel specifications and inspection techniques.
- PCN Level 2 in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI).
- Relevant PCN Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certifications covering welds, forgings, and castings.
- CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector certification (3.1 advantageous).
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and inspection requirements.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, weld symbols, and inspection criteria.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to lead and mentor others.
