Maintenance Assistant – Bolton, St Catherine’s Care Home

Pay
: £12.37 per hour, 37.5 hours per week, full‑time

Harbour Healthcare is recruiting a Maintenance Assistant to ensure that the Care Centre is maintained in safe, efficient, and functional order. You will be on call for emergencies only.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all legal documentation is completed on time.
  • Report and action any known defects to the Home Manager.
  • Maintain the Care Centre’s exterior, including sheds, outbuildings, waste storage areas, driveways, paths, and gardens.
  • Clear snow and grit driveways and accessible areas.
  • Maintain signs and outdoor lighting.
  • Carry out patching and touch‑ups of decoration as required.
  • Test and log the fire alarm system weekly; check call points, fire exits, and emergency lights.
  • Keep ventilation units and lights clean, replacing defective bulbs or diffusers.
  • Test portable appliances and record water temperatures.
  • Maintain a “Maintenance Book” recording defects; use it for daily repairs or replacements.
  • Assist or supervise deliveries to the Care Centre.
  • Liaise with the Home Manager or delegated staff regarding maintenance work.
  • Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
  • Attend mandatory training days or courses, on or off site.
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including proper storage and use of paints and varnishes.
  • Report any infectious illnesses, injuries, or accidents to the Home Manager.
Qualifications & Knowledge
  • General maintenance knowledge/experience (minor electrical, plumbing, joinery).
  • Good communication skills and a confident team player.
  • Clean driving licence and access to a car or similar vehicle.
  • Willingness to receive training on health and safety/EHO issues.
  • Police check and POVA check (where required).
  • Desired – Understanding of central heating, laundry equipment, and hot & cold water systems.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety regulations.
