About the role

The School Nurse Manager (SCPHN) will lead and manage one of our School Health teams in Sefton. The post is a permanent band 7 role, working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will hold a recognised SCPHN qualification recorded on the NMC database.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and management to the school nursing team and support staff, ensuring the delivery of a safe, high-quality, evidence‑based service for children and their families.
  • Lead the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme within the Sefton 0‑19 (up to 25 send) service.
  • Ensure the team works proactively to deliver anticipatory and maintenance care, providing a responsive service to children and families in both planned and unplanned care needs.
  • Provide caseload and clinical supervision, delegating effectively and ensuring appropriate delivery of patient/client care.
  • Maintain clinical credibility by providing clinical care and supporting team members within the clinical environment.
  • Develop and maintain individualised care plans, following a holistic assessment of health needs, and evaluate care delivery for identified needs.
  • Implement and evaluate care delivery, ensuring all clinical activity reflects the core objectives of health promotion, self‑care, disease‑specific management, long‑term condition management, and palliative care.
  • Set objectives for performance monitoring and provide reports on staff and patient activity to the service lead.
  • Develop and update service protocols, policies, and provide induction to new team members and students.
  • Act as an advocate and champion for patients/clients in various forums and professional groups, challenging attitudes and behaviour where necessary.
  • Plan and implement rotas, schedules and working patterns to ensure business continuity.
  • Participate in policy and service development, authoring protocols and contributing to service redesign.
  • Manage budgets, monitor spending and report over/under budget to the budget holder.
  • Ensure all team members have up‑to‑date personal development plans (PDP), Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) reviews.
  • Maintain equitable and professional relationships with local health and community partners, working collaboratively to meet client needs.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience as an SCPHN within a school or similar service.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a track record of delivering high‑quality care.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Clinical competence in delivering complex and highly complex care to children and families.
  • Experience in developing and implementing clinical services, protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgetary and staffing plans.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with external stakeholders and partners.
  • Understanding of NHS policies, protocols and governance frameworks.
  • Fluency in English and ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team.

Flexible working requests will be considered. The role offers a permanent band 7 contract with a 37.5‑hour week. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and enroll in the DBS Update Service.
