About Age Concern Liverpool and SeftonAge Concern Liverpool and Sefton is a local charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people. We provide practical support, advice, and services that promote independence, wellbeing, and dignity in later life.
Role PurposeThe Benefits Advice and Support Officer will provide expert advice and practical assistance to older people seeking information on state benefits and income maximisation after retirement. This role is crucial in helping individuals navigate complex benefits systems, ensuring they receive their full entitlements and improve their financial security.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver confidential, accurate, and empathetic advice to older people on state benefits, pensions, and income‑related support.
- Assist clients with completing benefit applications and related paperwork.
- Conduct benefit checks to identify entitlements and opportunities for income maximisation.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of welfare benefits legislation and policy changes.
- Build strong relationships with local agencies, referral partners, and community organisations.
- Keep accurate records of client interactions and outcomes in line with organisational standards.
- Promote the service through outreach activities and community engagement.
- Contribute to identifying and securing additional funding to extend the role beyond the initial 12‑month period.
- Prepare reports and case studies to demonstrate impact and support funding applications.
- Experience providing welfare benefits advice or similar support services.
- Strong understanding of benefits available for older people (e.g., Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, Housing Benefit, Council Tax, TV Licence, Travel Passes etc).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
- Competent in using IT systems for case management and reporting.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding principles.
- Experience working in the voluntary sector or with older people.
- Knowledge of local funding streams and experience in fundraising or bid writing.
