Responsible for developing healthy students and community: A Mancos School District Middle School Science Teacher cultivates a warm and welcoming learning environment and is responsible for building a culture of trust, belonging, and social-emotional safety. The teacher is responsible for fostering a classroom where taking risks is encouraged while ensuring every student feels respected and empowered. To support this growth, the teacher actively engages families as essential partners, maintaining open communication and involving them in the celebration of their child’s growth and learning.

Responsible for creating an engaging learning environment: A Mancos School District Middle School Science Teacher is a “designer of learning” who moves beyond a traditional approach to create an active, engaging learning environment. The teacher will work closely with colleagues to facilitate immersive learning that connects core subjects to real-world challenges, guiding students to investigate, analyze, and create. By acting as a mentor and coach, the teacher provides the scaffolding and feedback necessary for students to meet and exceed grade-level standards and produce high-quality work.

Through data-informed instruction, the teacher consistently assesses progress to ensure every student is supported in reaching their full potential.

The Middle School Science Teacher is one of three science teachers in the Secondary School.

• Utilize effective teaching practices to teach the adopted curriculum for assigned grades and subjects so that students attain the adopted grade/course expectations and standards. Modify and tailor the curriculum as necessary to address individual student differences, learning styles, and student abilities while ensuring access to grade-level standards. Instruct with district-adopted materials and utilize supplemental classroom materials, media, and teaching appropriate for assigned levels and subjects.
• Incorporate and adhere to an inquiry-based, project-based learning approach, when appropriate, providing students with real-world, hands-on experiences to enhance their understanding of new concepts and allow for productive struggle.
• Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment that cultivates a love of learning and supports student success through effective behavior management and social-emotional development strategies.
• Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff.
