Michael Taylor Search & Selection are partnering with a valued client to recruit an experienced Estimator within the commercial office Design & Build / Fit-Out sector. Our client is a successful and growing contractor delivering high-quality CAT A, CAT B and full office interior projects for a diverse range of commercial clients.

Role Overview

The Estimator will be a key part of the Pre-Construction function, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial office fit-out projects. You will support the full tendering and pricing process from initial enquiry through to project handover, ensuring cost plans are robust, aligned to the client brief, and commercially viable.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret drawings, specifications and client briefs to build full scopes of work.

Undertake quantity take-offs and produce material, labour and subcontract cost breakdowns.

Obtain and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations.

Prepare detailed tender submissions including BOQs, cost plans, preliminaries and clarifications.

Participate in value-engineering exercises and propose cost-effective alternatives.

Identify scope gaps, risks and commercial considerations early in the tender stage.

Liaise with internal design, commercial and project delivery teams to align estimates with delivery strategies.

Maintain up-to-date cost databases and rate libraries.

Support clarification reviews, tender interviews and client discussions as required.

Ensure clear, thorough handover of cost information to project delivery teams following contract award.

Candidate Requirements

Experience as an Estimator within commercial office fit-out, refurbishment or Design & Build environments.

Strong understanding of CAT A/B office fit-out elements: partitions, ceilings, joinery, finishes, M&E interfaces, flooring, lighting, etc.

Proficient with estimating software, take-off tools and Excel.

Excellent numeracy, attention to detail and analytical skills.

Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and work to deadlines.

Strong communication and negotiation skills, able to collaborate with subcontractors and internal teams.

Commercially aware with an eye for value engineering opportunities.

Self-motivated, organised and able to work independently or part of a team.

Knowledge of UK building regulations, procurement routes and fit-out delivery processes is advantageous.
