The Role
Key purpose of the role is to manage a workload which aims to support those affected by rogue trading practices and criminality, improving the quality of life for the people of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The post holder will ensure appropriate intervention and prevention measures are taken to address criminality which is causing harm and adversely impacting the most vulnerable members of society.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Responding to complaints about product safety, fair trading, food standards, illicit tobacco and alcohol, age-restricted goods, animal welfare (livestock), weights and measures, and intellectual property using a risk-based approach.
• Undertaking inspections arising from information received or gathered, including proactive visits and joint visits with partner agencies such as Police or HMRC.
• Preparing and presenting reports and legal documents to support formal action, including notices and penalties.
• Working with partners and stakeholders to deliver a multidisciplinary service.
• Responding competently to a wide range of problems arising from service requests, intelligence reports, proactive work, projects, and information received.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• Educated to A Level / NVQ3 or Diploma level or equivalent gained from hands-on experience in an enforcement type role.
• Knowledge and understanding of Trading Standards roles, responsibilities, and legislation.
• Knowledge of IT packages including MS Office:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Diploma in Trading Standards or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards or equivalent (DPCP/Board of Trade).
• Knowledge of early intervention and prevention measures.
• Experience to gather evidence for potential litigation, prepare reports and witness statements, and present evidence in court or other forums.
• Practical experience of conducting investigations and obtaining witness statements.
• Ability to persuade and influence individuals to gain cooperation and compliance, including diffusing confrontational situations.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £44 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £35 per hour PAYE).
