The Independent Reviewing Officer is responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in care. You will ensure that care planning, review processes, and decision-making are timely, effective, and firmly focused on the child’s needs, outcomes, and long-term permanence.

• Lead Looked After Children (LAC) reviews in line with statutory timescales, ensuring care plans are outcome-focused and child-centred.
• Monitor the local authority’s performance in care planning and permanence, promoting timely and appropriate long-term solutions such as fostering or adoption.
• Challenge drift and delay in decision-making, escalating concerns where necessary to safeguard children.
• Advocate for children’s rights, ensuring their wishes and feelings are central to all care planning and review activity.
• Work collaboratively with social workers, foster carers, and partner agencies to promote effective multi-agency practice.
• Maintain high-quality records and contribute to audits, reports, and performance monitoring to drive service improvement.
• Engage fully in continuous professional development while upholding Social Work England standards and ethical practice.
