Are you interested in a hands‑on role operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the critical electrical and mechanical equipment that powers our data centres? Join our AWS infrastructure services team as a Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) Apprentice.
A data centre is a specialised facility filled with thousands of computers, servers, and networking equipment that store and process vast amounts of data. Key Job Responsibilities- Take part in day‑to‑day operations of data centre electrical systems
- Carry out routine maintenance checks on critical power equipment
- Monitor and operate electrical distribution systems safely and efficiently
- Support emergency response procedures when required
- Learn to operate and interpret Building‑Management Systems (BMS) to monitor facility performance
- Assist in conducting equipment testing and maintenance activities
- Help maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities
- Support the inspection and testing of emergency power systems
- Develop an understanding of cooling systems and their link to power infrastructure
- Apply problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot electrical systems with support from experienced engineers
- Operate and maintain UPS systems, generators, and switch gear
- Follow safety protocols and procedures
- Use monitoring systems and tools
- Understand power distribution in a data centre environment
- Respond to alarms and alerts
- Conduct basic fault finding and problem resolution
- Record and report maintenance activities
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to analyse and fix power system issues, understand how different parts of the system work together, and apply important industry safety standards. You will develop both technical and practical skills, learning to work independently and as part of a team. We are seeking individuals who possess a strong technical aptitude, excellent analytical skills, and a keen attention to detail.
A proactive approach to problem‑solving, effective communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will work towards the Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard – Electrical Power Protection and Plant Commissioning Engineer. You will spend 20% of your time on the job learning and developing skills, while completing studies. The apprenticeship will span 36 months, beginning in September, and will comprise classroom/virtual training, on‑the‑job training at your Amazon base location, and mentoring from experienced team members.
