Join to apply for the Associate Hospital Manager role at Gutsy Gals Inspire Me®
Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust provides award‑winning mental health, learning disability, community health and community children's services that support our communities throughout their lives. Our services cover all ages and serve the Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven areas.
A new voluntary opportunity is available for individuals living within the BDCFT local community. Under Section 23 of the Mental Health Act 1983 a patient may apply for a review of their detention or community treatment order. Hospital managers must undertake a review following the renewal or extension of a detention in hospital or community treatment order. The decision is made by a panel of three hospital managers.
Mental Health Legislation allows only volunteers to carry out the required functions, with a commitment of one to three days per month and claimable expenses. Full training is offered before any panel duties, with access to additional online and in‑person training.
- Work with agreed Mental Health Act procedures.
- Gain knowledge of the Code of Practice and ensure compliance with it.
- Sit on review panels, adopting and applying a procedure that is fair and reasonable.
- Receive reports in advance of the review meeting, read and digest them.
- Listen to and actively question the patient, Responsible Clinician, Care Co‑ordinator, Social Worker or Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN), nurse and any other appropriate personnel at the review meeting.
- Make rational decisions based on information given, properly directing themselves as to the law.
- Participate in annual review with the MHA Advisor and with an appraisal every three years, led by the Mental Health Legislation Lead and MHA Advisor.

- Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.
- Pay regard to materials and equipment.
- Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy.

- Commitment of one to three days per month as a volunteer.
- Will be provided full training before panel duties.
- Access to ongoing training and support to reinforce knowledge.
- May be required to chair review panels and receive additional payment.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is provided only for registered healthcare practitioner roles.
- The Trust reserves the right to close this position early if a significant number of applications are received.
