Job Description
A client within the Public Sector based in West Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Planning Developments Manager to join their Major Developments Team within Development Services as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority planning environment.
The Role Key purpose of the roleTo provide effective leadership and management of the Major Developments Team, ensuring the delivery of statutory planning responsibilities relating to major developments, minerals, and waste, while supporting regeneration and sustainable development across the district.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to- Managing and leading the Major Developments Team to deliver an efficient, high-quality planning service
- Overseeing performance management, targets, workloads, and resource allocation within the team
- Providing expert professional advice on major planning applications, planning obligations, and environmental assessments
- Representing the Council at committees, public inquiries, examinations, and court proceedings where required
- Supporting elected Members and servicing Planning Panels and Regulatory Committees
- Working collaboratively with regeneration, economic development, and building control teams to promote high-quality design and development outcomes
To be considered for this role you will require the following essential qualifications :
- Corporate Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
- Chartered Town Planner status
The below skills and experience would be beneficial for the role :
- At least 5 years’ experience at a senior level within a Town and Country Planning service
- Proven experience managing professional planning staff and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong knowledge of local and national planning policy, planning law, and the NPPF
- Experience of handling major planning applications and planning obligations
Excellent communication skills, including committee and stakeholder engagement
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £500 per day Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35) (approximately £400 per day PAYE).
