Position OverviewPrimary Care Paramedics provide care to patients as part of a multi‑disciplinary healthcare team and are dedicated to delivering compassionate, high‑quality services. The Primary Care Paramedic is responsible for providing accessible, responsive, and integrated patient care at all times. They collaborate with healthcare providers, allied emergency service agencies, and community agencies. This role ensures safe, effective operation of vehicles and equipment in accordance with Manitoba provincial regulations, acts, and Shared Health policy.
They are expected to conduct themselves professionally and ethically, demonstrating commitment to Shared Health’s mission, vision, values, goals, objectives, and policies.
Experience- Experience providing pre‑hospital care as an Emergency Medical Responder or Primary Care Paramedic.
- Competency in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Experience in patient relations and/or customer service.
- Proficiency with Shared Health ERS and Digital Health technology, software, and equipment.
- Both official languages are essential for designated bilingual positions, to ensure services are available in both languages.
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages.
- Graduate of a Primary Care Paramedic program held by an accredited Canadian educational institution, or a College of Paramedics of Manitoba approved equivalent.
- Certificate of Practice with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba – Member in good standing at the Primary Care Paramedic level.
- Valid Class IV Manitoba driver’s licence.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), level C or equivalent.
- Demonstrates and encourages others to follow the LEADS framework:
Leading themselves, Engaging others, Achieving results, Developing coalitions, and participating in system transformation. - Desired certifications:
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) from an accredited training provider.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from an accredited training provider.
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) from a certified training provider.
- Knowledge of:
- College of Paramedics of Manitoba Standards of Practice.
- Scope of Practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act.
- Manitoba Emergency Medical Response and Stretcher Transportation Act.
- Manitoba Highway Traffic Act.
- Shared Health clinical protocols, care maps, and associated documents.
- Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
- Other applicable Shared Health policies, procedures, guidelines, and directives.
- Applicants must provide a Physical Fitness Assessment by an approved fitness assessment provider.
- Applicants must complete a job‑related written test of clinical knowledge.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Travel by multiple vehicle types, with weather conditions anticipated; general risks of responding to various ERS calls.
- Exposure to high‑stress, physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding situations, and potential exposure to communicable disease.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort, including frequent lifting of patients and equipment.
