Dispute Resolution - Associate Solicitor

Oculus are partnering with a Top 150 UK regional firm, widely recognised by the Legal 500, to help grow their highly respected Dispute Resolution team in Brighton. The firm has built a reputation for excellence, tackling complex disputes for major PLCs, financial institutions, and well‑known brands. Joining this team means working on high value matters that truly shape outcomes for clients.

Recently, the team has acted on:

  • Rectification of deposited documents for a major PLC with potential liability up to £80m
  • Enforcement of a £12m joint loan for an offshore lender
  • Defence of a £40m unfair prejudice petition for a leading airline

The Role

As an Associate within the firm’s Regional Dispute Resolution Group, you’ll take ownership of a varied, high‑quality caseload while being fully supported by a collaborative and experienced team. You’ll work across:

  • Banking and finance litigation
  • Commercial and contractual disputes
  • Shareholder and company disputes
  • Defamation and reputation management
  • Contentious insolvency

You’ll also play an integral part in wider team initiatives supporting larger matters, contributing to BD efforts, and sharing knowledge that strengthens the group as a whole.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and progress your own varied caseload with excellence
  • Deliver clear, commercial, and pragmatic advice
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and professional contacts
  • Supervise junior team members and support partners on complex files
  • Maintain accurate time recording, budgeting, and file management
  • Contribute to seminars, articles, pitches, and wider BD initiatives
  • Ensure achievement of personal financial targets and KPIs

You’ll ideally have experience in commercial disputes, a strong technical understanding, and a client‑focused mindset.
