Senior C&I Engineer

Our client, a leading consultancy in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Senior C&I Engineer to join their dynamic team. This permanent position, based in Bristol and Glasgow with flexible hybrid working options, offers an exciting opportunity to engage in a variety of projects across the civil nuclear, defence, renewable energy, and storage systems sectors.

• Overseeing C&I projects from concept design through to commissioning.
• Designing innovative process control systems, including associated safety systems.
• Delivering innovation projects, taking new systems and technologies from concept to acceptance.
• Managing production, verification, and approval of electrical reports, specifications, and detailed design drawings.
• Leading a project team to ensure deliverables are met within agreed timelines and budgets.
• Interfacing with clients to develop requirements, negotiate contracts, and manage progress reporting and risk management.

Essential Requirements:

• MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
• Extensive practical knowledge of process control systems and solid understanding of EC&I documents such as SLDs, P&IDs, BCDs, and schematics.
• Experience developing solutions for safety‑critical systems aligned with standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ISO 13849, DO‑178, and DO‑254.
• Experience working to the requirements of ISO 9001.
• Mentoring and developing electrical engineers.
• Technical leadership on projects.

Desirable Requirements:

• Experience with platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Pilz PAS
  4000, and Rockwell Studio Logic.
• Formal functional safety certification/accreditation (e.g., TUV Functional Safety Professional).
• Understanding or awareness of Cyber Security standards such as IEC 62443.
• Familiarity with change control and defect tracking tools and processes.
• Chartership.
• Experience interfacing with Regulators such as ONR, DMR, CAA, MAA, Ofgem, ORR, etc.
