Overview
We are seeking a Building Physics Engineer – Team Lead to join a growing multidisciplinary consultancy in Bristol. This is a senior role combining technical expertise with leadership, offering the opportunity to shape and grow the Building Physics capability within a respected MEP team.
The Building Physics Engineer will deliver high-quality building physics assessments, mentor and develop a team, and contribute to innovative, low-carbon, and sustainable building solutions across multiple sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of building physics assessments including SAP, SBEM, Level 5 dynamic thermal modelling, thermal comfort studies, daylight/sunlight analysis, and in-use energy simulations
Produce and lodge EPCs and BRUKL documentation
Advise design teams and clients on strategies to meet performance targets while considering practical implementation and cost implications
Develop and maintain efficient QA, data exchange, and reporting systems
Act as a technical advisor to clients, contractors, and project teams
Lead, mentor, and develop the Building Physics team, including recruitment and training
Support knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the consultancy
Contribute to business development initiatives and assist in securing new projects
Candidate Profile
Strong experience in SAP, SBEM, Level 5 dynamic simulations, TM54, TM52, TM59, Part O compliance, daylight analysis (DF, VSC), and EPC production/lodging
Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills
Practical knowledge of low-carbon and sustainable design strategies
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience mentoring junior engineers
Proactive, collaborative, and solution-focused approach
Eligibility to work in the UK and fluency in English
Willingness to travel to sites as required
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience across residential, commercial, education, or leisure sectors
Knowledge of thermal bridging assessments
Interest in business development, tender writing, or bidding
Working toward Chartership or professional registration
Familiarity with IES, TAS, Design Builder, AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
Qualifications
Degree in a built environment-related discipline (postgraduate preferred)
Proven consultancy experience delivering building physics assessments
