Overview

At St Monica Trust, we believe music has the power to transform lives. As a not-for-profit charitable organisation, we are committed to helping people flourish in later life and reducing isolation and loneliness across Bristol. Our original site boasts a stunning 3-manual Willis organ and a weekly congregation of 70+.

Now, we’re creating an exciting outwardly-focused new role that goes beyond the traditional. We're looking for an Organist and Music Outreach Lead who will

  • Provide music for sacramental acts of worship in our chapel.
  • Lead and develop our choir, bringing creativity and excellence to every performance.
  • Develop partnerships and deliver a varied musical programme that builds community and inspires joy.

Key Outcomes & Results
  • Provision of high-quality organ, choir and piano-led music ministry for traditional acts of Christian worship
  • Delivery of a varied and inspiring programme of music at Cote Lane for St Monica Trust residents
  • New opportunities fostering inter-generational partnerships through music with organisations, groups, and the wider community
  • Increased levels of resident engagement and contribution through music
  • Widened local access to and participation with organ music through regular recitals, concerts and 'come and play' events
  • Innovative inter-site community connections, through music, between residents, families, staff and volunteers
  • Maintenance and care of the newly refurbished Willis organ for future generations
  • Analyses facts and available information to resolve varied and non-routine problems.
  • Plans and organises a range of interlinked activities and tasks.
  • May modify processes for best outcomes.
  • Confident with data and report writing/business case.
  • Aware of wider issues.
  • Uses experience to identify most appropriate actions.
  • Pre-empts issues and trouble shoots.

Key Competencies & Qualifications (Essential)
  • A skilled organist and choir leader with experience in liturgical settings.
  • Innovative, imaginative, and passionate about creating community through music.
  • Someone who thrives on collaboration and brings flair to every project.
  • FRCO / ARCO or equivalent; capable pianist; fluent sight-reader; comfortable with transposition
  • Adaptable and flexible church musician comfortable with both traditional and contemporary styles of worship
  • Proven experience of growing and leading a choir
  • Evidence of musical flair and creative approach to community outreach
  • High level inter-generational people skills with evidence of co-productive teamwork
  • Demonstrable appreciation for Christian worship and its value for worshipping communities
  • Analyses facts and available information to resolve varied and non-routine problems.
  • Plans and organises a range of interlinked activities and tasks.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Written responses presented in range of formats.
  • Exchanges and clarifies technical or complex info for diverse audience.
