Job Description & How to Apply Below
Bristol | Hybrid working | Full-time (one day in the office)
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced transactional finance manager to step into a key operational role within a large, complex professional services environment. This is a 12-month fixed term contract, created to provide senior, hands-on leadership and stability across core finance operations during a period of significant systems change. There is a strong likelihood of extension.
Reporting into the Head of Operational Finance, you'll act as the day-to-day anchor for the transactional finance function, working closely with managers across billing, receivables, payables, credit control and revenue. While the wider team focuses on the delivery of a new finance system, you'll ensure business-as-usual runs smoothly, risks are controlled and stakeholders are supported.
This role will suit someone who has managed transactional teams in a professional services setting and enjoys being close to the detail while still operating at a leadership level. You'll need to be comfortable prioritising competing demands, making judgement calls, and dealing with senior stakeholders.
What you'll be doing
This is a broad, hands-on role with responsibility across the full operational finance landscape, including:
Acting as senior approver for payments, travel spend and exceptions to policy
Overseeing billing, credit control, e-billing and revenue control activities, including complex and time-sensitive issues
Managing cashflow forecasting, daily bank activity and reconciliations
Reviewing and signing off client and trust account reconciliations
Owning month-end operational reporting, KPIs and financial control metrics
Producing finance and risk reporting for senior leadership forums
Managing rotas and resourcing to ensure full coverage across teams
Acting as an escalation point for receipts, debt queries and third-party payments
Overseeing debt provisioning, "no-chase" debt and credit control reporting
Supporting team managers through change while maintaining service levels
Providing visible leadership to teams working both on-site and remotely
What we're looking for
Proven experience managing transactional or operational finance teams within professional services
Strong understanding of billing, AR, AP, credit control and revenue processes
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Confident communicator, able to work with senior stakeholders and operational teams alike
A practical, solutions-focused leader who can keep things moving during periods of change
Highly organised, adaptable and able to juggle multiple priorities
Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office capability
Why this role?
A genuinely varied operational leadership role with exposure across the full finance function
A chance to play a critical role during a major system transformation
12-month fixed term contract with a strong likelihood of extension
Hybrid and flexible working approach
Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
