Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to take a secondment in the role of Specialist Pharmacist for Haematology at North Bristol NHS Trust. The 12‑month secondment offers a friendly, stimulating and rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical and technical expertise.
Responsibilities- Provide day‑to‑day clinical pharmacy services to the haematology directorate, working closely with the haematology team to deliver specialist advice and ensure safe and timely supply of medications.
- Attend weekly MDT meetings, contribute to teaching, guideline development and clinical audit.
- Support the Pharmacy Technical Services team, act as an Authorised Pharmacist and help maintain GMP compliance and other quality standards.
- Assist with the build and maintenance of the electronic chemotherapy prescribing system (Chemo Care®).
- Participate in late‑night, weekend and bank‑holiday rosters.
- Degree in Pharmacy.
- Registration as a practising pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Certificate or equivalent.
- Recent experience as a UK hospital pharmacist (Band 6 or above).
- Experience with in Technical Services and an aseptic compounding cleanroom facility compliant with GMP.
- Experience in audit and quality systems, and working with a multidisciplinary team.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification completed (e.g. Clinical Pharmacy Diploma/MSc) – desirable.
- Experience in haematology or oncology – desirable.
- Knowledge of GMP.
- Excellent time‑management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication with pharmacy staff, hospital staff and patients/carers.
- Standard IT competencies in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Training and supervisory skills.
- Problem‑solving ability at an appropriate level for the post.
- Self‑motivated, organised, adaptable and able to prioritise under pressure.
- Flexibility to work normal hours, extended hours, on roster, weekends and bank holidays.
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
