Cryptography Engineering Lead – Lloyds Banking Group

Salary Range: £92,701 – £109,060
Location: Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, London, Edinburgh
Hours: Full time
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 40% (or two days) in an office site
Job OverviewThe Chief Security Office (CSO) is key to delivering Lloyds Banking Group’s vision of putting customers at the heart of everything we do. Our cryptography services ensure secure transactions, data privacy, compliance, and protection of banking systems. The Cryptography Lab is updating these services for greater agility and ease of management, supporting safe business growth and the Group’s goals.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate across the Cryptography Lab to build empowered teams that solve complex business problems and deliver secure, scalable cryptographic services.
- Act as a modern technology leader, guiding teams towards business impact through excellence in execution.
- Lead the engineering function – set technical direction, inspire teams, and own cryptography architecture and design.
- Own the solution development lifecycle, vendor partnerships, operational excellence through Dev Ops practices, and engineering best practices.
- Drive engineering efficiency, quality, release velocity, and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and delivery.
- Recruit, retain and develop talent within the platform, ensuring high engineering performance.
- Drive the transformation of cryptographic platforms to deliver secure, scalable, consumable, and agile services that meet internal consumers and external regulators.
- Ensure readiness for quantum computing and evolving threats.
- Senior engineering leadership experience, preferably running a team of teams.
- Strong background in Dev Ops engineering on large, sophisticated cryptography services.
- Proficiency in software architecture, solution design, source code control, agile development, testing approaches, and continuous integration and deployment.
- Experience implementing and managing large, data‑intensive, transactional, high‑performance applications.
- Exceptional people and communication skills.
- Fundamental understanding of cryptography methods and solutions.
- Full lifecycle delivery of scalable, resilient, robust systems.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Experience in financial markets technology.
