Environmental Project Manager – WSP (UK & Ireland)

At WSP, we harness our global scale to deliver landmark projects across the UK. As an Environmental Project Manager, you will work with public and private clients in sectors such as highways, rail, aviation, defence, nuclear, residential, energy generation and renewables, and transmission and distribution. You will contribute to projects like National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, Heathrow Expansion, East‑West Rail and Sizewell C.

• Support the development of project proposals, determining requirements, scope, resources, programme and cost estimates.
• Develop and maintain project management documentation: plans, cost estimates, forecasts, risk registers, schedules, stakeholder registers, organisation charts, etc.
• Monitor and control the project schedule, staff hours, budgets, forecasts and expenditure.
• Ensure that health and safety information for site visits, including internal approvals, is in place.
• Undertake contract management and administration.
• Actively manage project change and risks, ensuring governance is adhered to and projects are delivered with compliance and optimisation.
• Work with, lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary environmental project teams, including technical staff and suppliers.
• Promote and hold the team accountable for environmental betterment, future‑ready and net‑zero strategies.
• Present as the face of Environment and Consents when interfacing with other WSP teams, clients and stakeholders.

• Interest or experience in environmental or land‑based sustainable development, with a can‑do attitude and a drive to develop your career.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to keep project teams and stakeholders informed.
• Experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager in a project or PMO environment, preferably with an environmental or sustainability focus.
• Working knowledge of programme management, including work breakdown structures, dependencies, critical path and the ability to assess MS Project/Primavera P6 or similar outputs.
• Commercial and contractual awareness, evidence of financial acumen and ability to deliver projects within budget and manage change control; experience with Professional Services Contracts, including NEC3/4, is a plus.
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g. PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS) and either chartered status or progress towards chartership or other accreditations.
