Job Overview

The post holder will work as an integral part of the team. The role of Housekeeper will assist in the coordination of all patient facilities/services in the area and ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

The main elements of the role are ensuring the delivery of cleaning, catering and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meet patient needs, as determined by the Supervisory Sister.

The post holder will work closely with contractors and support services departments as directed by the Supervisory Sister. They will assist in maintaining quality standards and rectify deficiencies.

Main duties of the job

• Provide enthusiasm and desire to deliver high‑quality service to patients and their families.
• Ensure the ordering and distribution of patients' meals and assist when needed, ensuring the ward is adequately stocked with consumables.
• Work with the multidisciplinary team to keep the ward environment and clinical equipment clean to a high standard.
• Be flexible and willing to work shifts covering Monday to Saturday service, including bank holidays.

Job Description and Main Responsibilities

• Encourage and assist patients to have drinks, taking into account special needs and medical requirements as directed by ward staff.
• Ensure people receive any assistance they require for drinks and monitor intake in conjunction with the ward nurse.
• Prepare hot/cold beverages including appropriate trolley/equipment regularly at scheduled times.
• Prepare areas where beverages are served/consumed to ensure a pleasant environment for patients.
• Wash all equipment/utensils used in preparation, regeneration, serving and consuming beverages at beverage rounds.
• Check that the ward kitchen is clean and tidy at all times, e.g. discard out‑of‑date food and rotate stock beyond the daily clean by the patient support team (PST).

Person Specification Work Experience

• Experience of working in a health or social care setting.
• Experience of time‑management skills and prioritising work.

Education/Training/Qualifications

• Numeracy and literacy level 2 or equivalent.
• Evidence of full‑time education achievements.
• IT skills: basic word, email, keyboard skills, data collection.
• Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Problem‑solving skill.
• Good communication skills both written and verbal.
• Awareness of healthcare policies and procedures.
• Ability to use initiative appropriately.

Personal Qualities/Special Circumstances

• Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and move across wards, departments as the need arises.
• Demonstrates calm, caring patient manner.
• Enthusiasm and commitment to working within a healthcare setting.
