Job Overview
Band 3 Research Administrator – Full‑time post (37.5 hours per week) within the HIV, Immunology, Gastro & Hepatology Research Team (HIGH) at the Clinical Research Centre, Southmead Hospital. The role is an entry‑level position aimed at supporting research delivery and providing a career pathway for individuals with administrative experience and strong digital skills.
Key Responsibilities- Provide administrative support for all research activities in line with study protocol, UK policy, ethical principles and the Trust’s legal requirements.
- Maintain site files, case report forms and all research documentation to ICH‑GCP, ISO 14155 and statutory standards.
- Advocate for the safety and well‑being of participants and staff.
- Promote research within the Trust and wider community.
- Communicate professionally and clearly with participants, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate initiative and act as a professional role model.
- Address concerns promptly and act as an upstander.
- Support and educate colleagues, students and Principal Investigators.
- Work across various research teams and clinical environments.
- Contribute to a sustainable research service.
Essential Criteria
- Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A‑levels, diploma, NVQ3) or equivalent experience.
- Mandatory training for the role and ICH‑GCP certification.
- Competent IT/digital literacy skills.
- Previous administrative or research‑related experience.
- Continuous professional development.
- Effective communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Prioritisation, organisation and decision‑making ability.
- Attention to detail and deadline management.
- Willingness to support junior staff.
- Ability to handle non‑routine enquiries and situations.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience contributing to service improvement or development.
- Mobile for occasional travel as required by the post.
- Part of a small, friendly, high‑achieving research team.
- Supportive training, orientation programme and research study day attendance.
- Opportunity to network within NBT Research Infrastructure of over 120 people.
- Employment by the Research & Development Department – Silver‑accredited ‘Investors in People’ Trust.
- Fixed‑term role aligned with current funding; potential for skill development and progression.
