Senior Ports & Marine Civil Engineer Job Description
AECOM Canada is hiring a Senior Ports, & Marine and Intermodal Terminals Civil Engineer and Project Manager (Civil). This role can be based in any major AECOM office.
Responsibilities- Technically Lead and/or manage multidisciplinary project teams in the planning, design, and delivery of intermodal, ports, terminals, and marine infrastructure projects.
- Oversee project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring alignment with client requirements and organizational objectives.
- Provide technical leadership in marine structural and geotechnical civil engineering, including container terminals, intermodal terminals, LNG and oil terminals, offshore wind facilities, and bulk material handling.
- Ensure quality assurance and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to manage project execution.
- Develop and implement innovative engineering and design solutions to address technical and operational challenges.
- Prepare technical documentation including designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, promoting knowledge-sharing and technical excellence.
- Support business development through technical input on proposals, participation in industry forums, and engagement with professional associations.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Marine, or Coastal Engineering (or related discipline).
- 6+ years of relevant experience in ports and marine infrastructure, including design and project management.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or eligible within 12 months or PMP or MBA.
- Master's in Civil Engineering or advanced studies in Civil Design, Terminal Planning and Operations.
- Ideally 10+ years of relevant experience in ports and marine infrastructure, including design and project management.
- Experience in Geotechnical Engineering, Coastal Engineering or Dredging.
- Proven track record of delivering complex marine infrastructure projects from concept through detailed design and construction.
- Experience in planning, operational analysis and design development of container terminal operations and civil infrastructure improvements.
- Ability to Identify, analyze, and prepare terminal optimization plans including new container handling systems.
- Familiarity with due diligence studies for new terminals, retrofit terminals and/or port systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in marine civil design, dredging, approach channel design, pavement, facility planning and operations.
- Strong project management skills, including budget control, scheduling, risk management, and client interface.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to liaise effectively across disciplines and with external stakeholders.
- Experience in mentoring and supervising engineering teams.
- Experience serving as a Civil Design Lead or in a design coordination role on large, complex marine projects.
- Experience with Terminal and Facility Planning and Operation.
- Ability to mentor and support junior technical staff;
Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues in a dynamic and energetic environment. - Board-Certified Port Engineer (BCPE) designation.
- Experience with LNG facilities and other Terminals (Bulk, RORO, Containers, etc.).
- Active participation in technical committees (e.g., ASCE/COPRI, PIANC, CSA).
- Published technical papers or contributions to industry standards.
- Business development experience, including proposal writing and client presentations.
- International project experience across diverse geographies.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $110,000 to $160,000.
