Detailed Overview

Within a client‑ and family‑centred care model, and in accordance with professional practice standards, policies and procedures, and the visions and values of the organization, this position works under the general supervision of a Psychologist and conducts a series of standardized neuropsychological/psychometric tests to assess cognitive functioning, education level, learning difficulties, personality, quality of life and vocational interests. Provides the psychologist with written and/or verbal summaries of test results and the client’s performance and behaviour to assist in diagnosis and treatment interventions.

Responsibilities
  • Picks up clients with possible psychiatric or neurological disorders from the ward or outpatient department and escorts them to the testing room for application of an appropriate battery of neuropsychological tests.
  • Administers a standardized battery of neuropsychological/psychometric tests according to established guidelines, assessing various aspects of cognitive functioning, applying and scoring questionnaires to assess personality, mood, quality of life and vocational interests.
  • Provides a written and/or verbal report to the psychologist regarding the client’s behaviour and performance during testing to assist in diagnosis and treatment interventions. Assures client confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates testing procedures to interns, observes interns performing batteries, and provides corrective action as required.
  • Participates in a quality‑control program by monitoring standards, ensuring testing processes follow established procedures, learning and applying new and updated tests, and guaranteeing equipment is in good working condition.
  • Records the amount of time spent administering battery tests, writing reports, providing guidance to interns and other duties for monthly accounting of time.
  • Ensures appropriate forms are completed prior to administering neuropsychological/psychometric tests, maintains client files by filing and securing test information, and enters test results onto a computerized database program.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements, immediately reporting unsafe situations by notifying a supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Two years’ direct neuropsychological/psychometric testing experience with a variety of clinical populations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of psychology assessment and treatment methods and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of therapeutic, diagnostic and consultation techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of other health‑care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Basic knowledge of evidence‑based psychological practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, co‑workers, clients and their families, both one‑on‑one and in groups.
