Renal Technician - Hemo Dialysis Unit - Royal City Center Community (RCCCDU)

Salary: CAD $30.27 per hour.

We are currently hiring a Casual Renal Technician to join our Hemo Dialysis Unit at Royal City Center Community in New Westminster, B.C.

Overview:

  • Under general supervision of the Manager, Clinical Operations, operate, set up and monitor dialysis equipment; prepare and test equipment; clean, rinse, sterilize and disinfect renal equipment; maintain supplies; provide instruction and training; participate in quality improvement activities; maintain current knowledge of renal equipment; and provide input into equipment purchases.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares dialysis equipment for patient treatment by performing duties such as attaching tubing, running infusion medicine, calibrating and checking alarms, and testing dialyzers; monitors equipment during dialysis; assesses and troubleshoots equipment via alarms; performs daily water verification test.
  • Cleans, rinses, sterilizes and disinfects renal equipment according to specifications; removes and disposes of dialyzers; performs routine maintenance of dialysis machine and reverse osmosis equipment, including replacing pre-filters.
  • Provides instruction and training to staff in operating renal equipment by demonstrating safe effective usage and participating in ongoing and in-service educational training programs.
  • Transports hemodialysis machines and portable reverse osmosis units to other areas and assists with setup for acute dialysis.
  • Participates in quality improvement for the Renal Program to identify areas requiring improvement and make recommendations to the Manager.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies for patient care by restocking, re-ordering and safely storing supplies.
  • Handles, stores and dispenses workplace hazardous materials and sharps in accordance with established procedures; attends to hazardous spills.
  • Participates in the purchase of new renal equipment in collaboration with the Manager and Biomedical Engineering staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge of renal equipment through journals, training courses and conferences.
  • Assists in preparing patients for treatment; transfers patients to/from waiting rooms.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

    Grade 12 plus two (2) years of recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Effective communication (verbal and written).
    • Ability to deal with others effectively.
    • Physical ability to carry out duties.
    • Ability to organize work.
    • Ability to operate related equipment.
