Manager, Philanthropy

Location: Greater Vancouver or Greater Kelowna, BC

Base pay range: CA $69,616.00/yr - CA $87,020.00/yr

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, Western Canada, the Manager, Philanthropy is responsible for proactively identifying, cultivating, and securing major gifts while managing relationships with British Columbia focused individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Essential Duties
  • Actively manage a portfolio of new and existing donors to develop and implement comprehensive individual strategies for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors.
  • Thoroughly qualify new and lapsed prospective donors to ascertain interest and readiness in giving at a major gift level.
  • Maintain a stewardship portfolio, ensuring that donors receive personalized correspondence, reports, and updates in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work in partnership with internal teams to coordinate strategies with assigned prospects, developing tailored and personalized proposals, and actively participating in and occasionally taking the lead with cultivation events.
  • Identify giving patterns of current donors and high-level prospects and identify donors with potential for growth and increased involvement with CNIB.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with program staff and involve the appropriate colleagues across CNIB to coordinate and execute strategies.
  • Ensure meticulous maintenance of Salesforce database recording accurate, strategic, and timely information on prospects and donors. This includes producing briefing notes, documenting solicitation plans, and meeting reports.
  • Create and manage volunteer networks that assist in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in non-profit management and philanthropy.
  • Support special projects as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Proven experience to build relationships at all levels of a complex organization, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement major gift strategic planning and solicitation strategies in support of funding priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure gifts at the major gift level.
  • Resourceful and organized with the ability to manage competing priorities, complex situations, and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills to engage with and foster positive working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external partners.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications applied to the preparation of proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Knowledge and experience using databases;
    Salesforce is an asset.
  • A flexible schedule that allows for after-hours events and meetings.
Experience and Education
  • Post secondary education in fundraising, sales/marketing, communications or business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent related experience.
  • Comfort and proficiency with CRM, financials, and budgets.
  • Adhere to applicable privacy laws as well as AFP, CAGP and CNIB standards of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical, strategic planning, time management, and organizational skills required. An ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment are essential.
  • Strategic mindset and creative approaches to deepening relationships and driving results.
  • Familiarity with the issues surrounding vision loss is an asset and a desire to be a passionate advocate for CNIB and those we serve.
